Neoprene Rubber Phenolic Resin Adhesive

Neoprene rubber, more particularly in the form of a solution than as a latex,  in a well known cold setting contact adhesive but when it is used in conjunction with a phenolic resing and hot cured it comes into a higher strength class. The first two polymer structural adhesive used on a commercial scale for bonding metal was probably of this type. In recent years, however, it has been superseded in importance by nitrile rubber and polyvinyl acetal as the thermoplastic component in two polymer adhesives.

A number of types of neoprene polymer are available but many of these differ more in their additives than in the structure of the basic polymer. Thus there are grades that can be cured or vulcanized under different conditions, some at room temperature. But the properties that are important when the rubber is used in conjunction with a phenolic resin are compatibility with the resin and solubility, there related properties will be considered as one.

The solubility of neoprene varies recording to the type of polymer, and especially with the ratio of sol and gel. Neither sol nor gel are easy to define but in this contest the effect they produce may be considered as that resulting largely from different length of polymer chain. Some polymer chains can be shortened by mechanical processes. In its substantially gel form, neoprene is practically insoluble.

The grades of neoprene commonly used with phenolic resins are those known as AC and AD. Both of these are soluble not only in hydrocarbons such as toluene but also in certain mixture of toluene and ketone especially methyl ethyl ketone, and other polar/non polar solvent such as ethyl acetate and hexane.

Ethyl Silicate Resin, HIgh Build Inorganic Zinc Rich Primer

This resin application is applied such as on Nippe Zinky 1000 HB that is a rust preventive, inorganic zinc rich primer of ethyl silicate (high build type). It contains metallic zinc in high concentration. Its film is 100% inorganic formation, and it can build thick dry film of 75 micron by airless spray without running or cracking. Therefore it perfectly prevents the steel excellent characteristics such as water resistance, oil resistance, thermal resistance, etc. under severe atmosphere.

Nippe Zinky 1000 HB is widely used as a Superior anti-corrosive primer for the protection of bridges, tanks, and steel structures of petroleum chemicals and shipbuilding.

Ethyl Silicate Resin Inorganic Zinc Rich Primer

Application of silicate Resin like on Nippe Zinky 1000 which is a rust preventive inorganic zinc rich shop of ethyl silicate type, which contains metallic zinc in high concentration (more than 90% by weight in dried film) and its film is 100% inorganic formation, thereby it prevents rust in the neighborhood of flames or pintholes of the paint film by galvanic action, or by reacting with iron and eventually permitting zinc to corrode preferentially to protect underlying steel. The composed inorganic substance result in the excellent characteristics such as oil resistance, thermal resistance, water resistance etc. Nippe Zinky 1000 is widely used as a shop primer for new plates of industrical and shipbuilding use pretreated in steel works and shipyards.

Polyvinyl Butyral & Phenolic Resin Shop Primer

The primer formula of polyvinyl butyral & phenolic resin also used in Vinilex 120 Active Primer that is based on special phenolic and butyral resin, anti-corrosive (zinc chromate) pigment and phosphoric acid as catalyst. It is a conventianal etching primer in twin pack composition (base and catalyst) having good weather and solvent resistance. Adhesion to metal surfaces and subsequent paint, and anti-corrosion is good enough to be widely used as a wash primer of long exposure type for new plates pretreated in steel works and shipyards.

Type of Polyvinyl Butyral Resin Wash Primer

Polyvinyl butyral resin is used like on Vinilex 110 Active Primer that is based on butyral resin, anti corrosive (zinc chromate) pigment and phosphoric acid as a catalyst. It is a conventional etching primer in twin pack composition (base and catalyst) having good weather and solvent resistance. Adhesion to metal surfaces and subsequent paint, and anti - corrosion is good enough to be widely used as a wash primer of short exposure type for new plates pretreated in nonferrous metal, such as aluminum.
