Acrylonitrile adhesive is a highly reactive and an extremely important monomer in the field of plastic and rubbers. The most important use of acrylonitrile is in forming copolymers. As a chemical intermediate, however, it is used for producing acrylic acids, as mention earlier and also another useful acrylic polymer, polyacrylamide.
Acrylamide:
Acrylamide (and methacrylamide) are prepared from the appropriate nitriles. They polymerise to produce film substances with adhesive uses. Polyacrylamide, although water soluble, is not inconveniently hygroscopic. It is important and useful as a thickener and as dispersing agent in adhesive compositions, and also as an adhesive by itself for paper and other cellulose materials.
